becoming workshop

here we go. it’s my big vulnerable announcement. the one i hinted about here.

today i am launching a new art journaling workshop titled becoming.

my husband was asking me last night, why this workshop is me being vulnerable? people launch and teach workshops all the time. no big deal right?

not exactly.

you see, this workshop was birthed out of a very vulnerable place in my heart and life. and when you create anything… a sculpture, a painting, a book, even a workshop, it requires a certain amount of vulnerability to put it out into the world. it’s like taking your heart out of your chest and displaying it for all the world to see. and you never know how people will react. that is part of the risk of being vulnerable.

to even write this workshop, required a huge amount of vulnerability on my part. because it’s the lessons i learned from the broken places. the places that you don’t really want everyone else to see because they are not so pretty. the messy days. the stuckness. all the time i spent becoming and getting to where and who i am today.

this workshop has truly been years in the making. it’s the very essence of what i was created to do. so, yes, it is vulnerable putting it out there.

i was talking to a very dear friend a few days ago. she is in the midst of truly great heartache and a situation where there is no end in sight. you know the kind right? i know what it’s like to be in that place… IN the becoming. on the way to where and who you are meant to be. and we were talking about how hard it is to really embrace the journey, to not try to get ahead of yourself, but to find joy in the every day, the small moments… to stop and really listen. listen because there are lessons right there for you to learn. that in the midst of your awful circumstances, there are diamonds there to be mined out your darkness.

it’s all about the journey, and the process, and the becoming.

so what does art journaling have to do with any of this? well i believe that the process of creating and making art is a parellel to this journey of becoming who you were meant to be. and i believe that if it is used correctly, it can be a tool to help you walk through this place. it will help you get unstuck. i noticed such a huge change in my life when i actually embraced the messy free flowing nature of mixed media art journaling. and i watch it over and over and over again when i am teaching classes.

being able to truly let go in creating a piece of art, means that you have to let go in other areas of your life as well.

the perfectionists, the ones who want to control every aspect of their lives, these are the ones who struggle the most with creating art in this way. and they are the ones who need it the most.

this workshop is all about letting go of fears. breaking lies. embracing the truth. finding the lessons in the journey. embracing the beauty in the every day. and finding the courage to tell your story.

i have been listening to brene brown speak. she talks a lot about the true meaning of courage. how it’s all about telling your story with your whole heart. i love this!!! because telling my story is how i have experienced healing in my own life. and i tell my story through my art quite often. all art journaling is, is telling your story. and i want to help release and free you to tell your story as well.

so yes, even though this is going to be an “art journaling” workshop, it’s really not at all about art journaling at all. it’s about vulnerability, telling our stories, embracing our becoming, and finding our true voice. and yes, i will be teaching art journaling techniques that will help you embrace the process… but this class is so much more than a whole bunch of art journaling techniques.

before i get into the details of this class, i want to share one more thing with all of you dear ones out there. because i desperately want the people who are supposed to come to this class to be there!!! i want to talk to you about worth and value. i purposely set the price for this class a little bit higher than i normally do and here is why…

i want you to know that you are worth it!!! i know that might seem like a strange rationale. but so many times we come to something out of a place of scarcity don’t we? we do it all the time. and when we come to a workshop like this out of a place of scarcity, we will never truly find the real value in ourselves or what we are supposed to be learning. and i purposely added extravagances to this workshop that i wouldn’t normally because i want you to be lavished upon. you know why? because you deserve it. yes, i could have cut back on some of the things that i am offering you in this course so that it could be a little more “affordable” to you. but i wanted it to be costly. because becoming who are meant to be IS COSTLY! it requires all of you.

so instead of starting from a place of scarcity, let’s start from a place of abundance. i want you to know that you are enough. you are worth it. you deserve this!!! so friend, if you really need this workshop and it makes your heart go pitter patter and you just know that you are supposed to and meant to be here, i want you to do me a favor. set aside your pocketbook for a moment. make a decision that you are going to come. then once you do that, sit back and wait for the funds to be provided for you. it’s really that simple. making a decision to come.

oh and one more thing… don’t let the fact that you live in another state keep you from coming either. if need be, i will help you find accommodations for your trip out here.
