first snow

last night was our first snow of the year. i love living in colorado. of course, we are lucky because our snow melts just as quickly as it comes. we have more days of sunshine here than most other states which might make the snow more bearable. but snow just might be my very favorite type of weather. maybe it’s because i am a native and it’s all i have ever known. no matter, i love the peace that a beautiful snow brings. it covers everything in it’s glorious white. for some reason snow makes everything seem magical and new to me. i love getting cozy with a big blanket and reading a book or watching a movie. lovely! right now i am under my big down comforter with a big mug of tea as i type away on my laptop.

my girlfriend has a beautiful first snow tradition. she bakes her absolute favorite cookies only on the first big snow of the year. the kind of cookies that are so good you might just eat the whole batch. i think they are pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. yummy! anyways, i love this idea. i think i need to come up with my own first snow tradition. cookies are not really in my strict diet. so i have to think this one over a bit. any suggestions?

As you only get first snow once a year… cookies sound like an excellent celebration even with a diet! It looks lovely by the way.

i agree cookies do sound lovely, but my diet is because of food allergies. no wheat, sugar, eggs, dairy. it just makes it a little difficult to find a good cookie recipe. otherwise i totally would liz!

Perhaps cookies to give as gifts?

First of all – thank you for sharing your snow photo – it’s so peaceful looking. I’m in Arizona and we **seldom** get snow, and then it’s for roughly 15 minutes!!

I’m thinking of a “doing” sort of thing for the first snow, like volunteer at a local food bank, or something that you don’t do all of the rest of the year – and then who knows? It might stick!!!…unlike your snow!!

How about a nice big pot of soup?

I’m with Dona – a big pot of your favorite soup sounds like a great way to celebrate the first snow!
