being inspired by…

November 1, 2010

today i am completely and utterly inspired by roben marie smith! i am smitten with her work. i love the messiness and the urban feel to it. lately i am feeling more and more attracted to things that are more raw, more messy, more free. and roben’s work is all of these things. she does a lot of art journals and i am loving all of her pages.

i love this page because it expresses the struggles that all of us artists go through. isn’t it easy to have these thoughts?

and this might just be one of my favorite things that roben does. it is called mail art. she takes a plain manilla folder and then collages and paints all over it. she stitches up the sides, fills it with whatever, then sends it off in the mail. could you imagine receiving an envelope like this one in the mail? wouldn’t you feel so special? i think i might just have to send a few out to friends.

Her work is gorgeous but you said something I find funny. You find her work messy and urban.
I find your work free and full of marvelous, as if it could mean different things to different people.
Roben’s work seems, to me, to very specific.

It makes no difference – you both do amazing art. 🙂
